“I respond to my environment. Most of my subjects are gleaned from my surroundings; places that I am familiar with and that I have formed some attachment to - presently, my home in rural Pennsylvania. I often return to the same subject multiple times; not for reasons of nostalgia, nor am I trying to glorify the American landscape. I think it is more like a dog marking its own territory.

Many years ago I chose transparent watercolor as my painting medium. It is always challenging. Watercolorists pretty much get only one shot - it either works or it doesn’t, but I enjoy the fact that there is always an element of risk.”
